Learn from My Mistakes! 5 Tips for Small Creative Businesses.

I am celebrating just over 2 years since I posted my first Studio Vlog on Youtube and began documenting my journey in building an illustration business.

Now 2 years on, I've decided to sit down and make a list of the mistakes I think I've made on my short journey. Things that I wish I could go back and implement, or maybe I could go back and NOT do.

I've put together 5 tips, based on these mistakes, in the hope that it can help you. Whether you've been in business 5 years, 5 months or 5 minutes. So lets go...

All of us have an idea of what we want to do when starting a small creative business. I knew I wanted to be an illustrator and eventually open an online shop selling products with my drawings on.

Along the way, I found myself getting distracted on social media, looking at trends and ultimately going off course to follow what works for other.

I absolutely love drawing characters however over time I changed to producing more text based products. I can only put this down to following amazing creators online who were doing the same. Although I love those products and still have them in my shop, it's definitely not what I originally dreamed of doing.

So my advice is, write down your dreams and goals. Stick it on your wall and work towards it and try not to be influenced too much by what others are doing. Focus on what YOU want! I'm now creating products with my characters on and I am so happy to be doing it!
